The Difference

When you hire me to take your photographs, you are hiring more than a typical portrait photographer.  I have an extensive background in the arts, and consider myself first and foremost an artist.  I majored in photography at Amherst College, received a Masters of Photography at the School of Visual Arts, and worked several years as a fine art photographer in NYC.  My work has won various awards and been exhibited nationally, and I’ve also lectured at colleges and high schools.

So, why does this set me apart from other photographers?  It means that I bring a creative eye and photographic knowledge to each shoot.  I scout scenes for the ideal light and composition, and my images often reference favorite artists and photographers, from Mary Cassatt to Sally Mann, Vermeer to Alec Soth.  The main intention of each session is to capture the personality of my subjects, as well as the environment that surrounds them.  Browse through my photos and decide for yourself how they compare to my competition.  When you hire me to take your picture you will not just receive a smiley portrait, but instead a piece of art of you and/or your loved ones.

I take a lot of pride in the products I offer.  All wall-sized photographs are printed in my studio with a professional Epson StylusPro 3880 on museum-grade paper.  Albums, books, and framers have been tested and selected to reflect the high standard I hold – I find products and designs that I’d proudly display in my own home.

This might seem sort of silly, but I don’t think it hurts to add that I am a friendly person! I smile a lot, and I laugh with kids.  I’m still super close to my parents, and I am now learning how to be a wife and mom myself.  Though I treat all clients professionally, I also get to know them well and build relationships that last beyond the photo session.

I encourage you to browse my website to learn more about the imagery and my business.  Please be in touch with any questions or to set up a complimentary consultation.
